‘Election board languishing’ thanks to Shapiro
Spotlight PA reports that the 2020 creation of a bipartisan Election Law Advisory Board was “heralded” at the time, as the board was “meant to review and recommend changes to Pennsylvania’s near-century-old election law…. But six years later, the board has fallen into a state of disuse, in part because Gov. Josh Shapiro has so far failed to fill seven seats he’s responsible for.” As a result, “The board has not met in nearly three years, even as county election officials are still clamoring for changes to the state’s outdated, contradictory election code.”
Op-Ed: Juneteenth reminds us why freedom wins
In Broad + Liberty, Beth Ann Rosica writes that “Juneteenth represents the best of American ideals. Our nation is not perfect, nor will it ever be; however, when faced with unjust laws and practices, our constitution provides a path for remedy and our citizenry stands up and speaks out.” She notes that while our country’s “history would be less tainted and painful had we ended slavery at the time of our country’s birth, it is important to recognize and celebrate the fact that ultimately freedom prevailed…. Our country today remains imperfect, but our history and constitution give us hope to strive for a ‘more perfect union.’”

Legislature has dueling bills on AI advertising
The Center Square reports that as lawmakers are considering measures to require transparency in AI use in advertising, the House and Senate have different ideas on what the regulation should look like. The House recently passed a bill that “essentially makes it illegal to disseminate advertising with AI-generated content without labelling it as such.” Meanwhile, in the Senate, there is “concern about any legislation that uses a broad brush, requiring labels or consumer notices on just about every piece of advertising.”
U.S. Steel workers still ‘divided’ on Nippon takeover
”On the one-year anniversary … of a $15 billion deal that put Japan’s Nippon Steel in charge of iconic American manufacturer U.S. Steel, union workers remain divided about the takeover even as they prepare for critical contract negotiations,” the Tribune-Review reports. The vice president of the local steelworkers union has taken an ‘I’ll see it when I believe it’ approach to Nippon’s investment promises, but others are more optimistic.
