Nat’l Dem group now targeting 17 Pa. House seats
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee—the national group that targets state legislative races—has added another Pa. House seat to its list, bringing to 17 the total number of House seats the DLCC is targeting here. The latest addition is the 88th District seat in Cumberland County, represented by Republican Sheryl Delozier, who is not seeking re-election. Per PennLive, these are the races that “will be held up to the party’s national Democratic donor base as places where support could make the biggest difference.” And DLCC “will also assist with research, polling, paid communication and direct voter contact.” In addition to House seats, DLCC is targeting five Pa. Senate races.
Voting info or data harvesting? (Spoiler alert: The latter)
Broad + Liberty reports that top Democrats in Pennsylvania are continuing to direct voters to a website that’s designed to look like an official government site with voting information but is actually a partisan site run by a Democrat operative and designed to harvest voter data that Dems use for partisan purposes. Just before the May 19 primary, House Speaker Joanna McClinton posted a link to the site. When contacted by B+L, she called the post “an unfortunate mistake that was corrected.” But it was not, in fact, corrected, and the posts remained live. The group behind the site has been funded by unions, lefty organizations, and so-called dark money groups that Democrats pretend to hate but secretly adore.
Op-Ed: School choice is winning
In an op-ed in the Washington Examiner, school choice champion Jeff Yass—managing director and co-founder of Susquehanna International Group—writes that it’s critical that school choice advocates take the next step beyond “think-tank” advocacy. That next step? “We have to put money behind political candidates who will champion school choice, and we have to defeat those who won’t.” Yass writes that among the efforts he’s “proud to support” are “Commonwealth Children’s Choice Fund’s [CCCF] work to expand the $600 million in school choice scholarships in Pennsylvania.” CCCF is a connected PAC of Commonwealth Partners, and we are profoundly grateful for Mr. Yass’s support in freeing kids from crummy, union-run schools.
State lawmakers won’t back Parker’s tax hike
The Inquirer reports that in an “eleventh-hour setback” for Philadelphia Democrat Mayor Cherelle Parker, state legislative leaders reportedly have no appetite to back Parker’s plan to raise the city’s hotel tax. Such an increase “requires approval from both City Council and the General Assembly in Harrisburg, and authorizing legislation must be signed by the governor. But sources said that as Parker has looked to win over Council members ahead of an expected vote this week, she has yet to garner enough support to raise taxes in the state House, even among Democrats.”
Fetterman, McCormick call out antisemitism in their parties
The Post-Gazette reports, “In an increasingly polarized Congress, Pennsylvania’s two U.S. senators — Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Dave McCormick — have united around their unstinting support for Israel …. The rare show of bipartisanship was on display Tuesday during the final day of the American Jewish Committee’s annual Global Forum in Washington, where the two took the stage together.” Both emphasized their support for Israel in the face of those who seek to destroy her and kill Jews, and both called out and condemned antisemitism within their own party.
