Teachers challenging unions’ political agenda in court
John Coyne, the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Fairness Center, a nonprofit public interest law firm that represents those hurt by public-sector union officials, writes in Broad + Liberty of teachers who have been “pushing back when teachers’ unions abused their power.” Coyne explains, “From the workplace to the ballot box, union officials’ priorities can collide with the rights of the teachers they represent.” And as some teachers have “learned that they were paying for someone else’s political agenda [they] decided to stand up for their rights and beliefs.”
Here are the Pa. Dem reps backing a new tax
The Center Square reports that Pennsylvania Democrat U.S. Reps. Brendan Boyle, Chris Deluzio, Madeleine Dean, and Summer Lee are all on board with a proposed bill that “would establish a 2% annual tax on the net worth of households and trusts valued at over $50 million, and an additional 1% annual surtax (3% total annual tax) on the net worth of households and trusts valued at over $1 billion…. The bill also includes … $100 million in new funding for the IRS and a 40% ‘exit tax’ on the wealth of ultra-millionaires and billionaires who renounce their citizenship to avoid the tax.” Of course, these folks seem to ignore that the top 1% of earners pay about 40% of all federal income taxes. The top 10% pay more than 70%.
Study: Upper middle class is now largest income group
Recently released research from the American Enterprise Institute confirms that the middle class in America is shrinking. But not because people are worse off financially. Rather. they’re better off. Reporting on the study, CBS News notes, “About 31% of U.S. households earn enough to be considered upper middle class, a roughly threefold increase since 1979, making it the nation’s largest economic group…. Meanwhile, the share of Americans in the ‘core’ and ‘low’ middle class segments has declined over that time.”
