Garrity ‘goes on offense’
Spotlight PA reports that with the Republican Party endorsement for governor secured, State Treasurer Stacy Garrity is looking toward next year’s General Election, and she is going on the offense against Gov. Josh Shapiro. Specifically, she has “called out Shapiro, criticizing him as ambitious, fiscally irresponsible, and unable to finish the state budget, which is two and a half months late.” And she is sharing her pledge to be a “fiscal watchdog who is focused on creating economic activity.”
$3M Dem ad blitz includes Pa. targets
POLITICO reports that as the threat of a government shutdown looms, the Democrat-aligned “House Majority Forward … is spending $3 million on broadcast TV and digital ads attacking Republicans.” The ads target 10 Republicans in swing districts, including Pennsylvania’s Rob Bresnahan and Scott Perry.
Ransomware group claims credit for attack on AG’s office
The Inquirer reports, “A criminal group known for ransomware attacks around the world reportedly has taken credit for an August attack on the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office that has led to criminal and civil cases being put on hold.” Per reporting on Monday by Comparitech, the group—Inc—”claimed responsibility for the attack and says it stole 5.7 TB of data…. The Pennsylvania Attorney General has not verified Inc’s claim. It did say that it refused to pay a ransom demand. The AG says it has notified a few individuals that their information might have been compromised in the breach.”
New docuseries suggests ‘errors’ in Greenberg investigation
An upcoming three-part docuseries on Ellen Greenberg—who was found dead with 20 stab wounds only to have her cause of death inexplicably changed from homicide to suicide—”alludes to potential ‘errors’ in the investigation on behalf of the Philadelphia Police Department, Medical Examiner’s Office and then-Attorney General Josh Shapiro in maintaining that her death was a suicide,” PhillyVoice reports. The docuseries is set for release this coming Monday.
Erie County workers hope Wabtec deal will secure jobs
The Erie Times-News reports that “Wabtec Corp., which operates its largest factory in Lawrence Park, has signed the largest locomotive agreement in the company’s history — a $4.2 billion deal for 300 locomotives” for the national railway of Kazakhstan. “However, the agreement calls for the locomotives to be assembled in Kazakhstan using kits of key components sent from the United States.” Still, the company says the “order will provide work for employees in Lawrence Park and at the company’s engine plant in Grove City.” And U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly added that the agreement will support “thousands of good-paying jobs in Pennsylvania.”
