Pa. loses on ‘vote with your feet’ map

From 2012 to 2022, Pennsylvania saw a net domestic outmigration of -181,662, putting us on the losing side in a Vote with Your Feet map released by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity. And when people leave, they take their incomes with them. The site also lets you see how much personal income moved from Pennsylvania (just pick “money maps” and then select Pennsylvania as the origin state and pick any destination state).

WaPo: U.S. House majority could hinge on Pa.

This headline is neither breaking news nor surprising. We’ve been saying it for years. But yesterday, the Washington Post ran a story saying, “Pennsylvania could determine who controls the House next Congress. Four Republican seats — enough to flip control of the lower chamber — are competitive this year. And Democrats are planning to hit them with all they’ve got.” This further underscores that as Pennsylvania goes, so goes the nation.

Pa. Dems make stuff up

In a post on X meant to attack GOP Treasurer Stacy Garrity, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party said Garrity voted for President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill and then said, “We can’t make this s— up.” Actually, they can, and they did, as Garrity is the state treasurer and not a member of Congress, so she doesn’t vote on federal legislation (or state legislation, for that matter). In response, Garrity posted, “Who wants to tell them? 😂” And, “Do better, @PADems. 🤡”

Housing Q&A with Sen. Joe Picozzi

Freshman Republican state Sen. Joe Picozzi, who unseated Democrat Sen. Jimmy Dillon last year to flip a northeast Philly Senate seat red, spoke briefly with City & State PA about Pennsylvania’s  housing challenges. (Separately, City & State also has a longer story on housing, which notes, “Obstacles to increasing the number of units available, including restrictive zoning, prolonged permitting processes – combined with a lack of new construction – have put the commonwealth in a precarious position.”)

Pa. House hearing today on ‘child care crisis’

The state House Republican Policy Committee will hold a public hearing this morning at 11:00 a.m. “to discuss modernizing regulations and staff eligibility requirements so that child care businesses can thrive and working parents can access reliable, affordable child care.” Testifiers at the hearing, which will be held in Bucks County, include Aaron Riggleman, manager of government affairs for the PA Chamber of Business and Industry; Marissa Christie, president and CEO of United Way Bucks; Tami Unger, branch director of River Crossing YMCA; Bernadette Rodrigo, director of Children’s Village; and Tiffany Martin, director of Teddy Bear College.
