Harris spent yesterday in Philly

With 8 days to go and Pa. the center of the political universe, it seems headlines keep repeating themselves. “Harris in Pa.” “Trump in Pa.” So, it’s no surprise that VP Kamala Harris was back in Pa. yesterday, this time spending the day with what POLITICO calls “a singular focus: Philadelphia.” Her visit “underscored the heavily Democratic city’s importance to the vice president — and also a central challenge facing her campaign: If she doesn’t drive turnout among Black and Latino voters there, she’ll lose the state and her best path to the White House.” The story notes that in 2020, Biden won 81% of the Philly vote. “But recent polling warns of a fraying Democratic coalition, including Trump cutting into Harris’ margins among Black and Latino men….”

Lancaster County investigates suspected voter registration fraud

Late last week, the Lancaster County Board of Elections announced it had identified approximately 2,500 voter registrations that were suspected of being fraudulent. ABC27 reports, “District Attorney Heather Adams said in a press conference that 60% of the suspected applications that have been reviewed at this time have been verified as fraudulent. Verified fraudulent applications had a variety of inaccuracies, including names that didn’t match personal information (such as social security information or addresses), duplicate handwriting on applications filled out the same day, and inconsistent signatures.” At the same time, some of the applications reviewed were, indeed, accurate. An investigation is ongoing, but the county noted that the fact that the fraudulent applications were caught demonstrates the system is working

Gallup: Vast majority of Americans support voter ID

The Left’s fierce opposition to voter ID continues to be fiercely out of step with most Americans. According to a new Gallup survey, 84% of U.S. adults support “Requiring all voters to provide photo identification at their voting place in order to vote.” Yep, 84%! What’s more, 83% support “Requiring people who are registering to vote for the first time to provide proof of citizenship.” And 76% support early voting.

Pa. remembers Tree of Life shooting

Yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue that took 11 lives and was the worst antisemitic attack on U.S. soil. The Tribune-Review reports, “If kindness can counteract one incalculable act of hate, that spirit was alive in Pittsburgh’s Jewish community Sunday…. Even before an evening ceremony honoring victims of the Tree of Life mass shooting — a somber service in Squirrel Hill that drew more than 400 attendees – community members showed resolve and a desire to heal through volunteer efforts in Pittsburgh and beyond.”

‘Union political spending doesn’t represent members’

The Commonwealth Foundation’s Andrew Holman writes in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that during this election cycle, “87% of all federal donations by organized labor groups went toward Democrats.” He explains that “[t]his one-sided political giving is especially prevalent among public sector unions national big four: the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the National Education Association (NEA), and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).” In fact, in the 2021-22 election cycle, these four “collectively spent $708 million on politics and lobbying. Moreover, over 95% of their federal political donations have gone to Democrats in the 2024 election cycle.” Meanwhile, it’s “safe to assume” this spending doesn’t accurately represent the partisan breakdown of union members.
