In Pittsburgh, Harris talks economic agenda
Yesterday, Democrat Presidential nominee Kamala Harris was at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she outlined how her economic agenda as president would apparently be far different from her economic record as vice president (my words, not hers). The Tribune-Review reports that her “speech focused on three economic pillars: lowering costs by offering tax breaks and tackling price gouging; investing in innovative companies in manufacturing, energy, aerospace, and tech; and cutting red tape to make building homes and starting new companies and small business easier.” Meanwhile, polls continue to show that voters trust Trump more than Harris when it comes to the economy.
House Speaker wants Ukrainian ambassador fired after Pa. visit
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is calling on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to fire his country’s ambassador to the United States following this past weekend’s visit by Zelenskyy to a Pa. ammunitions plant that helps supply the Ukrainian war effort. At issue is not the visit itself but concern that, per Johnson, “The tour was clearly a partisan campaign event designed to help Democrats and is clearly election interference.” Additionally, Republicans object to an interview Zelenskyy gave in which he criticized GOP VP nominee J.D. Vance as “too radical.”

Arbitration board rules in favor of U.S. Steel
The AP reports that an arbitration board that “was jointly chosen by U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers to decide disputes between them” ruled yesterday “that U.S. Steel may proceed with its proposed acquisition by Nippon Steel.” The Steelworkers “had filed a series of grievances in January alleging that the successorship clause [of its labor contract] had not been satisfied.” But the arbitration board disagreed, saying “that U. S. Steel has satisfied each of the conditions of the successorship clause of its basic labor agreement with the union and that no further action under the agreement was necessary in order to proceed with the closing of the proposed transaction with Nippon Steel.”
