Committee hearing today on education funding
This afternoon at 1:30, the Senate Education Committee will hold a public hearing on education funding and school district fund balances. Earlier this year, an audit of a dozen Pennsylvania school districts found that districts are hoarding money while raising taxes on local residents. Auditor General Tim DeFoor, whose office led the audit, is among those scheduled to testify today. Click here for the agenda and live-stream link.
GOP lawmaker to provide budget perspective
This morning at 10:00 a.m., House Republican Appropriations Chair Seth Grove (York County) will hold a press conference to “offer the Republican House perspective of the governor’s budget proposal and preview the upcoming budget hearings.” The event will be live-streamed here.

Pa. lawmaker takes on national role
Yesterday, the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC), which is part of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), announced Pa. House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (Lancaster County) as its new chair. RLCC is the RSLC’s “largest caucus and only national organization devoted to electing Republican state legislative leaders.”
How would McCormick v. Mastriano play out in GOP Senate primary?
This hypothetical question could become reality, as both David McCormick and Doug Mastriano are reportedly considering runs for U.S. Senate in 2024. POLITICO (which, incidentally, is clearly no fan of Mastriano), takes a look at the potential matchup. The story notes that many Republicans believe some MAGA supporters “are finally sick of losing.” But many MAGA voters think these Republicans have it all wrong.
