Pa. has about $4.9 billion in unrecovered unemployment fraud
The Center Square reports that in 2020 and 2021, Pennsylvania saw $6 billion in unemployment fraud, of which the Treasury Department has recovered about $1.1 billion, leaving $4.9 billion still out there. A whopping $4.3 billion is connected to the federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program. But sure, let’s trust government to spend taxpayers’ money responsibly.
Fetterman to return to campaign trail today
As Democrat John Fetterman returns to the campaign trail nearly three months after suffering a stroke, his spokesperson had this to say about Fetterman’s planned remarks tonight in Erie County: “He’ll talk about how blessed he is to be back. It’ll be somewhat emotional — a little raw about what he went through, how grateful he is to be campaigning again.” The AP has more.
Pa. industry groups oppose so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’
Multiple Pa. business, manufacturing, and energy groups including the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business & Industry, the Pennsylvania Grade Crude Oil Coalition, the Pennsylvania Independent Oil & Gas Association, and the Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers signed onto a letterto U.S. House leadership opposing the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” (IRA). The groups note that “the considerable tax increases and new government spending in the IRA amount to the wrong policies at the wrong time.” Read more at the Delaware Valley Journal.
Oz challenges Fetterman to five debates
NBC News reports that Mehmet Oz has challenged John Fetterman to five debates in the race for U.S. Senate. The story notes, “Fetterman’s campaign wouldn’t say how many debates he will commit to and dismissed Oz’s gambit as a sign of desperation.” Read more here.
